When I say, “Mailbox”, what image comes to mind? Now when I say, “Rural Mailbox” do you see something different?
Ah yes, todays observation of small town living is the special designer mail box posts that have been through the war against “them dang kids.” Here’s a nice example of a rural mailbox.
You can see the splint system cobbled together by the owner more than once. We all know it’s only a matter of time before another generation of kids get the keys and, well, come up with a great “new” sport.
To fight against such vandals there is no end to the ingenuity that includes putting the mailbox inside a drainage pipe, hanging the box on a chain, heavy duty welded steel poles, etc. Some folks just give up and set their mailbox on the pole so that when it’s hit with a baseball bat, it simple falls off and can be reset the next day with much less effort than cobbling together another solution.
