Baby Deer

Meet “Spindle”, the newest member of earth. This helpless little find was resting on the warm road as we drove up. Mom, who is near by, allowed me to get this picture before nudging spindle up off the road. The got up and wobbled off.

There’s a little back story to this image. As we pulled up, momma deer was standing on the road about 10 feet from baby. Momma moved off into the woods. Baby was left looking like this:

Spindle, dead or alive?

Spindle, dead or alive?

As you can see, Spindle looks like road kill. Let’s just say that at this point, bad memories of Bambi being killed floaded Jenny’s head. I gave up trying to calm her down and stepped out of the car to make sure Spindle was breathing and his eyes were blinking. I was pretty sure he was doing exactly what God taught him. Keep your head down and don’t move.

I grabbed my camera, to take pictures. After two shots I went over an nudged him with my foot. I finally worked his way to his feet and headed into the thicket of grass behind him. He was so small that the grass was almost as high as he was. I’m sure Spindle and Momma are still telling the other dear about this adventure.
