The Healing Garden Gnome Home

January 3rd, 2014

There’s a wonderful garden near our local hospital that has the cutest little building that one can visit while pondering important things. I’ve always liked it. My recent efforts to illustrate it on my tablet were disappointing so I thought I’d try again. I’ve included the original photograph for the purpose of comparison. If you’re like me, you’ll see the mistakes and lack of realism. If you’re like my mom, it’ll be perfect and use words like “artistic license”. Thanks Mom!

Observations of Small Town Living (OOSTL)

January 3rd, 2014

Sandpoint Drug Store is unique in a few ways. 1/4 of the store is a pharmacy, 1/4 of the store is a drug store, and 1/2 the store is a hardware store. I guess they want to make sure moms and dads can find what they want. In addition, there’s a used books section right there for you to grab a book to enjoy. No cost, no signing the book out. All on the honor system.

Observations of Small Town Living (OOSTL)

January 3rd, 2014

It’s the middle of a cold winter and I found this image taken when people place their bodies inside water, as apposed to on top of ice, for the purpose of recreation. Where I come from, this would be like Halloween where that lady left a bowl of candy out with a note that said, “only take one.” I repented of this thievery long ago but the memory still haunts me. Thankfully, not everyone would keep the life jacket.life.jackets

The Sixes are now the Fives

December 28th, 2013

I don’t know where the sixth turkey has gone off to but I haven’t seen her in about a week. We assume she’s gone to camp (the preverbial place where turkeys go to have fun). So, with only 5 of them, they are now the Fives. I’m not sure if I want to hand feed them but they are as close as my feet.

Photo retouching – Next Year’s Christmas Card

December 28th, 2013

I’m still practicing drawing on my tablet. This one turned out nice enough that I think we’ll be using it for our Christmas Cards. Originally this was a photo from our yard.

Pencil, charcoal, & crosshatch

I thought this would turn out better than it did but that’s why they call it practice.

Replacing Our First Idaho License Plates

December 18th, 2013

Today marks the end of an era. We’ve been here long enough (7 years) that the state is replacing our license plates. Call me sentimental, but these were the first non-Illinois license plates we’ve had since we began driving.

Flower painting

December 13th, 2013

Finger painting on my tablet. It’s a flower. I have to state this because many folks didn’t realize my last image was a calf (mistaking it for a deer, goat, hedgehog, etc.). Clearly, this stuff requires practice.

Tablet Painting

December 9th, 2013

I’ve been so inspired by paintings by my mom and my sister. Two very talented artists. I can only aspire to their level. Using the medium of my tablet, I thought I’d take a crack at some painting myself. Here’s one of my first efforts. Yes, I have a long way to go.

Christmas Video

Below is a little video that I’d been wanting to do for years. Finally have a camera that can do time lapse photography. If your browser can’t view it, just click this link to download it.

Merry Christmas!
