Closing on construction loan tomorrow

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Yes, it’s time to put our names and everything we’ve saved on the line. Tomorrow we head into the big city (6000 people) to the bank and sign our lives away. This will in turn get the wheels moving and the house will be scheduled for building. There’s much to do between now and the next few month. I’ve plotted out the driveway for the excavator and we have a good idea about where the house is going to go.

Not all is good news I’m afraid. I’m sure I’ll have a million similar stories but, “guess what?” The move in dates have been moved. We wanted the “cathedral” ceiling, not the “vaulted” ceiling – more designs, more engineering, more on site building. Now we’re talking August. Big surprise there! It’s early, Jenny and I are still strong and we haven’t begun to lose it yet. So, this one passes without much complaint.  You can imagine where this blog is going to go by the time June rolls around!

This is where the bad people go. Yes sir, this is the local police department in Ponderay (the next town over). You have to admit, it’s kinda cute. Makes you want to bake cookies and bring them to our town’s finest just to see the inside.

Spring Break Up! This isn’t some new fad involving half-dressed drunken teens sewing their oats in the warm southern climate while being filmed (this is a family blog after all). No, spring break up is a special time of the year when warmer whether causes the frozen ground to begin thawing out. Every native has a different way of explaining it here but to us city folks, the ground gets “mucky”. If it’s not paved, it’s mucky and filled with tons of little pot holes. If it is paved, it’s covering mucky soil below. It’s so mucky… “How Mucky Is It?”. Well, it’s so mucky that little road-crew gnomes come out and put up signs restricting road access to heavy vehicles.

Even on a local highway, the speed limit for trucks was reduced to 35 miles per hour so that they don’t tear up the roads. Many smaller roads, especially those that are un-paved are strictly off limits to trucks. Construction companies, timber companies and other like the one that is supposed to bring our house to our property that use large vehicles have to lay off workers until the restrictions are lifted. If you live in the mountains during break up, everyone knows it because your car is covered with a layer of brown muck. Back East you had to go find this much muck to play in. Here, it’s right out your back door.

I guess small towns are a lot like big ones when it comes to spelling. What is wrong with this picture? Hint: Jenny saw this instantly and I didn’t even notice.

Work, good and bad news

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

Just a quick note to explain that business has been a little hectic lately. We’ve had the good fortune to have been given the opportunity to buy a competing hosting company in Florida including 200 clients. That’s taken place and things are just settling down. In the next month we’ll be doing it again with another host in Canada and 100 clients. That’s the good news. The bad new is that I got a call a few days ago from the wife of a competing host. Her husband is living out my worst nightmare. He had a stroke and incapacitated and his wife has no clue about what he does (sounds familiar). He has a large and successful company with nobody at the helm. So, right now I’m trying to keep his business afloat. Timing couldn’t be worse as I try to juggle this all at once. Please pray for Mike’s health to recover, for his wife to be strong, and for me to make wise decisions in trying to help.
