Sunrise

Sunrise is the term used for when the morning sun begins it’s climb up the mountains so that we can see it.

Yeehaaa – SkiJoring

Saturday, February 18th, 2012

Horse + Rider + Snow + Skier = SKIJORING. The goal is to race a horse around a snow covered track while pulling a hapless skier over three large ramps in the fastest time. We got to see two of the skijoring world champions (and some hopefuls) compete at the country fairgrounds. OK, maybe the skijoring world is quite small. None the less, it was exciting.

Moose Feet vs. People Feet

Saturday, February 18th, 2012

I wear a size 12 boot. Hopefully that puts into perspective the moose foot print next to mine.

Observations of Small Town Living (OOSTL)

Saturday, February 18th, 2012

We went to see the critic acclaimed move, The Artist. We walked up to the tell, and asked for two tickets for “The Artist”. She tells us the price, and proceeds to pick up a walkie-talkie and says to someone, somewhere, “The Artist”. We got our tickets and headed into the theater only to realize that the projectionist is setting up the projector just for our viewing. He was at the other end of the radio and she was queuing him that someone had come to see that particular movie. Soon, other patrons came but for the most part, we could have had any seat in the house.

A Timely Thing To Do

Friday, February 17th, 2012

I don’t set aside enough creative play time but being winter and all, I took the time to create something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. To create an elegant-clock face using calligraphic flourishes. Over a month I was able to grab some 40+ hours and finish a dream. It measures 24 inches across so there’s no need to squint from across the room.

The text in the center reads, “Sola scriptura; Sola fide; Sola gratia; Solo Christo; Soli Deo gloria.” (For those who don’t know Latin, like me, I included the translation, “By Scripture alone; by faith alone; by grace alone; through Christ alone, glory to God alone.”)

I’m seriously thinking about selling a few at some local consignment stores. (Reg. $249) Sale price: $149.00

Scribbling with a Snowmobile

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

I got a new application on my phone that uses GPS to create a path of where I’ve been hiking, ATV riding etc. Something funny showed up on the map from yesterday’s snowmobile ride. Any guesses what the red scribbles are?

The answer is when we found a field where I practiced turning in powdery snow.

Scotcman’s Peak – just over there.

Sunday, February 5th, 2012

From our porch or on the hill behind our house we can see Scotchman’s Peak. A well known mountain in the area. Scotchman’s Peak is the tallest white peak to the right of center in this shot (click to enlarge)

I did a little investigating and it turns out that from our house to the mountain is 26.75 miles. The hellow line on the map below is from our house to the peak.

What do you call a small cave?

Sunday, February 5th, 2012

When I think of “cave” I think of something that one can crawl into, or maybe walk into. But what if you have to shimmy into it? Is that still a cave? If a bear lived in it, it would be called a den. But what if no bear were found in it, is it then a cave or den? Whatever it’s called, I found a small “thing” while hiking behind the house. Now that I found it, I need a volunteer who can shimmy.

While hiking I also saw some beautiful sights.

Spaceman Visits Sandpoint Idaho

Saturday, February 4th, 2012

Astronaut John Phillips shared a great presentation about his experience flying around in space on various space ships including multiple space shuttles, the International Space Station, Russian ships. He also shared information about the challenges & equipment used to take photos from space. I may never get to take photos from space, but I did get a picture of a guy who has. And that’s good enough for me.
